Frequently Asked Questions

Have you launched?

We have a closed beta in place. We are testing the concept and the technology in a few neighborhoods in the Bay Area to ensure its viability.

Can I sign up now or learn more?

Feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions or sign up with just your email address to be notified as soon as we become generally available.

Are you really free?

Yes. We will not charge merchants, nonprofits or patrons any money to make or receive donations. We guarantee this. All donation services will be free.

How will you make money?

We are currently well funded. But we will eventually provide some optional fee-based marketing and reporting services. However, we guarantee that the donations to the community will always be free. This is the underlying mission of BigPie, to foster community reinvestment.

For Patrons

Do I choose the nonprofits?

Yes. You choose a charity, your school, a sports club or any nonprofit in your neighborhood. You can choose up to three. You can change them at any time.

How much goes to my nonprofits?

Each BigPie merchant decides on how much they will donate based on your transaction (a percentage or fixed amount). This is then divided equally to each of the nonprofits that you have selected.

Can I see what I have given to my nonprofits?

Yes. You can see the amount you are raising for your cause as you visit your nonprofits. We want you to know your impact.

For Merchants

I am a merchant. How can I start?

Simply register your email, and we will inform you when we have launched formally. If you want more information now, feel free to contact us.

What do I need in place to use BigPie in my shop?

All you need is an Internet connection and a browser. In many cases, if a BigPie patron has chosen to register a credit card with us, you don’t need anything at all; we will record the transaction automatically in those cases.

For Nonprofits

What nonprofits are included and how can they register?

We allow local nonprofits to participate. Generally they must be 501(c)(3) organizations as defined by the IRS. Our initial list is made up of the nonprofits residing in the neighborhoods where we have launched. Anyone can recommend a nonprofit to be added to our list. We provide an easy method to do this.

How can I get my members or donors to participate?

Just direct them to and tell them to sign up. Tell them often! It’s free. It’s simple. It’s good for the community and assists you with your mission.

Can I see how much I have received?

Yes. If you register with us, we report all donations you have received and show you the origin of the donations. We want you to know your community of patrons and merhants.

How often do I receive my donations?

We will send donations as soon as they reach a minimum amount or a set time period has passed, whichever occurs first.
